MOSCOW, Idaho – The University of Idaho volleyball team travels to Pennsylvania this weekend to play in the RMU/Chick-fil-A Robinson Labor Day Volleyball Classic. The Vandals will play Duquesne and Robert Morris on Friday, before taking on Liberty on Saturday morning.
SCOUTING THE DUKES (2-1): Duquesne University defeated Youngstown State (3-0) and Saint Francis (3-1) before falling in five sets to Akron to begin the 2021 season. As a team the Dukes are hitting .193. Morgan Kelly has a team-high 44 kills on the
season, while Anna Shoemake is hitting a team leading .333 with 26 kills. Setter Hailey Poling has 116 total assists, averaging 9.67 per set. Summer Slade (3.25 dpg) and Camille Spencer (3.17 dpg) both average over 3 digs per set defensively for the Dukes.
SCOUTING THE COLONIALS (3-0): Robert Morris opened the season at the FDU Tournament, going 3-0. RMU first defeated Maryland Eastern Shore in five sets before sweeping Manhattan and Fairleigh Dickinson. Abby Ryan leads the attack, tallying 36 kills with a .213 hitting percentage. Ashleigh Wallin (59 assists) and Megan Cannon (43 assists) split setting duties. Nikolette Zanolli (2.73 dpg) and Ryan (2.90 dpg) anchor the Colonials' defense.
SCOUTING THE FLAMES (0-0): The RMU Volleyball Classic will be the first action of the year for Liberty. During the Spring 2021 season, LU was 5-9 after finishing 21-12 in 2019. Amaya Williams was voted the ASUN Preseason Setter of the Year, while Amelia Preston was named the ASUN Preseason Player of the Year.
SCOUTING THE VANDALS (1-2): Idaho opened the 2021 season at the Idaho Volleyball Classic, defeating Nevada (3-1), while falling to Portland and Grand Canyon.
Delaney Nicoll and
Allison Munday led the Vandals, each tallying 33 kills on the weekend, while
Nikki Ball has 23 kills while hitting an efficient .372.
Peyten Ely recorded 97 assists, while Nicoll (34 digs) and
Alaina Lacey (31 digs) anchored the Vandals' defense. Â
