POCATELLO, Idaho – The Idaho Vandals met their Idaho State rivals in the ICCU's Battle of the Domes on Sunday morning. With a late goal by
Julia Bailey in the 79
th minute, the Vandals secured their seventh win of the season.
Bailey's goal was paired nicely with goalkeeper
Avrie Fox's fifth shutout of the 2021-2022 season. She faced five shots on goal during the match and racked up six saves.
The Bengals outshot the Vandals in the first half with a total of 14 shots, while the Idaho Vandals only took four. However, Idaho State was not able to score on any of these.
In the second half,
Hannah Alfaro,
Savannah Foster, and
Taylor Brust all fired a shot on goal to be saved by Idaho State's goalkeeper, Kylee Atkins.
Not long after a yellow card on the Bengal's Peyton Dion, Bailey scored, assisted by Brust, to put the Vandals at a 1-0 advantage over Idaho State. This game-winning goal was Bailey's third of the season, and she is now tied with
Maddy Lasher and Foster, who also have three goals under their belts this season.
The Vandals are at 7-2-1 for the season.
Their next match will be back in the Dome against Northern Arizona, Friday, October 1. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
