MOSCOW, Idaho – The Idaho Vandals (3-1) ran over CSU Bakersfield (0-3-1), 4-1, on Friday evening.
Julia Bailey had a brace for the Vandals, while
Maddy Lasher and
Leiden Huber each scored a goal in the match.
Both squads got four shots off in the first half, but neither was able to find a goal in the period. The Vandals earned five corner kicks, but the game remained scoreless heading into the break.
Idaho came out in the second half fired up, and in the 55th minute, Lasher had a shot blocked, but she pounced on the rebound and buried her shot, putting the Vandals up, 1-0. The home side continued to put the pressure on, and after a foul,
Taylor Brust's 68th minute free kick fell to Bailey who made no mistake, scoring her first goal of the year. Just two minutes later, the Roadrunners had their first chance of the half, and Darian Tatum was able to slot one home to cut the deficit to one.
In the 74th minute, a shot by
Leiden Huber hit off the post, and the rebound fell to Bailey who buried her second goal of the game, and the year, and gave the Vandals back their two-goal cushion. In the 78th minute,
Hannah Alfaro was taken down in the box. Huber easily scored the penalty to seal the win for Idaho.
The Vandals outshot the Runners, 14-8, including a 7-4 edge in shots on goal. Lasher led Idaho with three shots to go along with her goal, while Huber and Bailey each took two shots. Seven Vandals tallied one shot in the game.
Hallie Byzewski (1-0) played all 90 minutes, making three saves while allowing one goal. Flavia Burrell (0-3-1) took the loss for the Roadrunners, making three saves and allowing four goals.
Five different Vandals have scored this season. Lasher's goal against CSUB was her second of the year, giving her a tie for the team lead with Bailey.
