MOSCOW, Idaho – The Vandals got rolling early and kept rolling all day as Idaho football (1-0) took down Simon Fraser (0-1), 68-0 to open the season.
The shutout is the first by the Vandals since 2010, while the 68 points were the most since the 1994 season. The 68-point margin of victory is the second largest ever by the Vandals, trailing only Idaho's 83-0 win over the College of Idaho, in 1923.
The Vandal offense got going early and never looked back. Head coach
Paul Petrino split time between the three quarterbacks and it paid off.
CJ Jordan and
Mike Beaudry combined for 277 yards in the air, while the trio finished with 159 yards on the ground.
The ground game was incredible on Saturday, led by
Roshaun Johnson. Johnson rushed just 10 times, but ended the day with 87 yards and three scores. Jordan added a touchdown on the ground, as did freshman
Elisha Cummings.
Aundre Carter, in his first game since 2019, also found the endzone, as did
Khalil Forehand.
Hayden Hatten remained the most consistent threat in the air, catching two passes for 106 yards and a score.
Michael Noil led they way in receptions with four, totaling 68 yards.
Defensively Idaho was balanced throughout. No Vandal recorded double digit tackles, but 26 different Vandals recorded at least one.
Noah Elliss led the way with eight tackles, including 1.5 for loss. As a group, the Vandals allowed just 13 total yards on the ground and 77 through the air.
Next up the Vandals travel to Bloomington to take on Indiana, Sept. 11 at 4:30 p.m. Pacific.
