Vandals Rob The Bank, Beat Northern Colorado 64-59

GREELEY, Colo.  –  Four Vandals scored in double-figures as Idaho (4-12, 3-4) topped the Northern Colorado Bears (4-8, 0-4) 64-59 Thursday night at The Bank of Colorado Arena.

Beyonce Bea recorded her third-straight double-double scoring 23 points and pulling down 10 rebounds in the huge road win for the Vandals.

"Bea was outstanding tonight, absolutely outstanding," head coach Jon Newlee said. "I can't say enough good things about what she did tonight and has been doing this last stretch of games.  Our team feeds off her energy when she gets going."

Bea was 10 of 16 from the floor and added a couple of assists and two blocks.

After battling back and forth for 30 minutes, the Vandals held a six-point advantage heading into the fourth quarter. UNC was able to chip away at the lead and took a 56-53 lead with five and a half minutes left in regulation. Tiana Johnson hit free-throws to cut the lead to one. The vandals then got eight straight stops and Bea scored back-to-back buckets in the paint to give the Vandals a 59-56 lead before Kirby was able to ice the game at the free-throw line.

"The way we executed the last three minutes was awesome," Newlee said. "Getting the big stops, the big boards, and running our late game stuff I thought was fantastic. Allison (Kirby) was just ice at the free-throw line which was great."

Kirby was clutch down the stretch, connecting on five of her eight made free-throws in the final 29 seconds. She finished with 10 points, four rebounds and four assists.

Offensively the Vandals shot 36.5 percent from the floor and had 19 assists on 23 made field goals.

"I thought everyone did a great job of taking care of the ball tonight," Newlee said. "19 assists and four turnovers. That's the best ratio we've had in a long time, total team effort. Everyone did their job tonight."

Louise Forsyth scored 17 points off the bench and Tiana Johnson scored 10 points and pulled down eight rebounds.
