Gloeckner, Vrieling Post Season Highs in Five Set Loss to Montana

MOSCOW, Idaho – The Idaho volleyball team (4-18, 1-9 BSC) came out strong but ultimately the Montana Grizzlies (14-9,7-4 BSC) battled back from down 2-1 to defeat the Vandals in five sets, 25-18, 17-25, 25-22, 19-25, 11-15, on Saturday afternoon on ICCU Court at Memorial Gym.

Freshmen Taryn Vrieling and Olivia Gloeckner led the Idaho attack, as the pair each posted personal bests in kills. Vrieling had a game-high 18 kills on a season-best .429 hitting percentage while Gloeckner posted her second double-double of the season with 16 kills and 13 digs. Setter Kate Doorn posted 20+ assists for the seventh time this season, with 34 to lead Idaho. 

Outside hitter Allison Munday was also a key contributor on the offensive end, supplying 12 kills and two aces. Travel Morris had six kills on seven swings to help the Vandals total 64 kills for the match. 

Libero Aine Doty had 14 digs to lead the team, while Gloeckner and Morris each totaled four blocks. 

Montana was led by a trio of attacks that posted double-digit kills, as Paige Clark led the Grizzlies with 15, and Catie Semandeni and Ellie Scherffius each had 14 apiece.  
 
The Vandals head back on the road next week for two matches against Weber State (Thursday, Nov. 3) and Idaho State (Saturday, Nov. 5).
