Vandal Hoops Host Saturday Matinee against Utah Tech

MOSCOW, Idaho – The Idaho men's basketball team hosts a weekend matinee facing the Trailblazers of Utah Tech on Saturday, Nov. 19. Tip off is set for 2 p.m.

Last Time Out
After hosting Cal-State Bakersfield (2-1) on Thursday night at ICCU Arena, the Vandals (1-3) came up short for the first time at home this season, 52-43. Idaho grabbed a 30-24 advantage in the second half before the Roadrunners answered with a 20-0 run boosted by Kaleb Higgins, who finished with 18 points. Cal-State Bakersfield scored 22 of their 52 points off of turnovers after forcing the Vandals to do so 18 times. 

Both hailing from Spanaway, Washington, Isaac Jones and Divant'e Moffitt led the team with 10 points each. Jones also pulled down 10 boards which marks his second double-double of the year.

Scouting the Trailblazers 
Utah Tech is 1-3 overall to open the 2022-23 season. The Trailblazers' lone victory came in their home opener over Cal-State Northridge (69-63) last week. Utah Tech gets back into action on Saturday after most recently falling at Arizona, 104-77.

Senior guard Cameron Gooden and forward Tanner Christensen lead the Trailblazers in scoring, both averaging double-figure scoring marks. Gooden posts a team-high 13.5 while Christensen puts up 11 a game and averages a team-best 6.5 boards. Guards Isaiah Pope and Frank Staine also average nine and 8.5 points, respectively. 
 
Series History 
This is the first-ever meeting between the Vandals and the Trailblazers.
 
Notables
  • Isaac Jones holds a remarkable field goal percentage of 75%, which ranks 19th in the nation and first in the Big Sky. He leads the team in scoring with 15.3 points per game.
  • Guard Divant'e Moffitt leads the conference in two categories boasting totals of 58 points and 20 assists. He averages 14.5 ppg. 
  • Terren Frank and Yusef Salih round out the top four scorers for Idaho. Frank records 11.8 per game while Salih averages nine. 
  • As a team, the Vandals rank first in the conference in field goal percentage (47.8) and scoring defense (61.8).
  • The Vandals average 13.8 assists per game, ranking third in the Big Sky.
  • Moffitt has a total of 20 assists which places him first in the conference and 20th in the nation.  
  • Jones cleans up the glass for Idaho, averaging a team-high 8.3 rebounds a game while frontcourt teammate Terren Frank follows with 6.3 per game.

The Vandals begin their road trip to California next week for the Thanksgiving Jam, visiting Cal Poly (Nov. 23) and Pacific (Nov. 25).
