Brewer Named Associate AD for Compliance

MOSCOW, Idaho – University of Idaho Director of Athletics Terry Gawlik has announced Matt Brewer as the Associate Athletic Director for Compliance. In this position, he will oversee the compliance efforts of the department's 16 Division I teams and its student-athletes.

"We are excited to welcome Matt to the Vandal Family," said Gawlik. "In the ever-evolving landscape of college athletics, his experience as an administrator, as well as his time working for the NCAA, will be tremendously valuable for our coaches and student-athletes."

Brewer arrives in Moscow with over 19 years of athletic experience, most recently in a consulting role for institutional compliance offices across the country. Prior to his consulting work, Brewer was the Associate Athletic Director for Compliance at Boise State University for six years.

"I would like to thank Kim Rytter and Terry Gawlik for the opportunity to bring my family home," said Brewer. "I've been so impressed with the staff and people I've met so far, and I am so excited to get started."

At BSU, Brewer oversaw the day-to-day operations of the compliance unit, while also serving as sport administrator for softball and men's basketball. He also served as Chair of the Mountain West Compliance Committee.

Prior to his time in Boise, he spent four years in the NCAA National Office as the Assistant Director of Academic and Membership Affairs. His responsibilities included working in the primary area of rules compliance (student-athlete reinstatement, institutional performance program) and in the secondary area of academics (academic improvement plans, APP penalty waivers).

Brewer also worked at Colorado State University from 2007-2010, beginning as Director of Compliance before being promoted to Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance in 2009. Brewer began his compliance career on the Palouse as a Compliance Assistant for Washington State Athletics in 2003, working his way up the ranks to Assistant Director of Compliance for the Cougars.  He also served as WSU's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Advisor from 2004-2007.

Brewer is a 2002 graduate of Whitman College, where he earned his bachelor's degree in sociology. Brewer was a two-year team captain for the Blues' baseball team. He earned his master's degree in education, with an emphasis in athletic administration, from Washington State University in 2005.

Matt will be joined by his wife, Shanna, and daughters, Hailey (12) and Kylie (8). They will reside in Moscow.
