Gay, Johnson named Vandals of the Month

MOSCOW, Idaho – Francisco Gay and Tiana Johnson have been named March's Vandals of the Month.

Gay, a native of Argentina, is beginning his second semester in his freshman year studying marketing. The newcomer has enjoyed a strong start to his competitive career for Idaho, being a part of the six-man rotation in singles for the Vandals at the No. 1, 2, and 3 positions in four matches this spring. He holds a 2-2 record in singles play.

"I realized I wanted to study Marketing because my mother was an economics major and at a young age I have always enjoyed things that involve numbers."

After his collegiate career comes to an end, Gay looks forward to competing professionally and plans to work at a Fortune 500 company one day following his playing career.

"If I'm unable to compete professionally in tennis then I want to work as a marketing director for a company. I think it would be really cool to get a job working for Nike one day."

Johnson, a Kalispell, Mont. Native. Is a grad transfer guard/post on the women's basketball team and is working on her Master's in Dietetics. Tiana transferred from Sacramento State where she graduated with her Bachelor's in Nutrition. She is a three-time Academic All-Big Sky selection and has been able to earn a 4.0 cumulative GPA. This season she is tied for the team lead with 62 made 3-point field goals and is shooting 41.1 percent from the field and is averaging 9.8 points and 5.9 rebounds a game.

"I want to become a registered dietitian and work with athletes at a big university. I Looking forward to finishing the first year of my master's program and playing in the Big Sky Tournament and trying to go all the way!"
