PHOENIX – The 2022 Big Sky Tournament will get underway with quarterfinal play on Thursday, April 28, at the Phoenix Tennis Center. The Idaho women's tennis team (5-12, 3-5 BSC) enters as the No. 6 seed and will match up against No. 3 seed Idaho State (12-6, 5-3 BSC) at 8 a.m. tomorrow.
The Vandals make their return to the conference tournament after clinching a berth in the final match of the regular season in a 4-3 win over Eastern Washington. Freshman
Jayanne Palma helped lead the group over the Eagles with her come from behind three set victory over EWU's No. 3 Yasmin Mansouri. The England native fell 6-0 in the first set before evening the score at one set apiece with a 6-2 victory in the second. Trailing 5-1 in the third frame, Palma rallied back to win 7-5 and keep the Vandals postseason hopes alive.
Palma's performance was good enough to earn this week's Big Sky Player of the Week, becoming the second Vandal (
Melissa Huchet) this season to receive the conference weekly honor.
Sophmore
Ke Syuan Jhang leads the Vandals in singles this season, holding a 11-4 overall record and 6-1 mark against Big Sky foes. Junior
Nicole Horacek has been another bright spot in Idaho's singles lineup, with a 7-7 overall record (4-2 BSC) in the spring.
