LARAMIE, Wyo. – The Idaho volleyball team (3-9) defeated Nicholls State in straight sets (25-18, 25-21, 27-25), capping off both the UniWyo Invite and their 2022 non-conference slate on Saturday.
The Vandals close non-conference play with a three-match win streak after three consecutive victories in two days over Morehead State, Wyoming and Nicholls State.
"Today was difficult - there was a great deal of emotional energy expended in our last match Friday," Idaho head coach
Chris Gonzalez said. "We struggled to find a high level of concentration, this led to several unforced errors. In the final set, we did come from behind to win 3-0 so we are happy with the result."
Playing a pivotal role respectively in Idaho's 3-0 outing at the UniWyo Invite was freshman setter
Kate Doorn, who earned Tournament MVP. Doorn totaled 108 assists, 13 digs and eight blocks over the weekend, including 38 assists and three stuffs in Saturday morning's matchup against Nicholls State.
Freshman
Olivia Gloeckner received the first All-Tournament honor of her collegiate career. She led the offense versus the Colonels with her second consecutive double-digit kill performance, posting a team-high 12 kills.
Outside hitter
Allison Munday posted 34 kills in three matches to help earn All-Tournament honors also. Munday recorded 10 kills and two blocks in the tournament finale against Nicholls State.
For the Colonels, Katie Jones led with eight kills and five total blocks.
Up next, the Vandals return to Moscow for its first conference match of the season against Sacramento State. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m.
