Idaho Secures Senior Day Win over Utah Tech

MOSCOW, Idaho - Idaho women's swimming and diving won eight events on its way to a 155.5-137.5 win over Utah Tech on Saturday afternoon at the UI Swim Center.

"Today was a really good performance - we swam fast," Sowa said. "Utah Tech brought out the best in us and they swam great too. We want to keep carrying that forward as we try to put these girls back together and really enter into our rest phase leading into WAC."

The Vandals (5-4) won five individual events, one relay and both diving events to clinch a win in Moscow for their last home meet of the season.

Freshman Grace Ruble and Sophomore Ella Haskins led the way for the Vandals, winning two individual events each. Ruble won the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:19.80 and took first in the 200-yard IM, clocking in at 2:04.20. Haskins put in dominant efforts in the 50-yard free and 100 free to secure 18 points for the home team. She finished at 23.41 seconds in the 50 free and 51.61 seconds in the 100 free.

Senior Rylie Jones raced her way to a first-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle, edging out Utah Tech's Ikea Losey by .11 seconds with a 1:53.57 finishing time.

Hailey Faith was Idaho's top scorer in both the 1-meter and 3-meter dives. She opened the meet scoring a 294.60 in the 3-meter and then posted a 260.92 in the 1-meter.

After the meet, head coach Mark Sowa honored Idaho's 12 seniors.

"It's tough to talk about that group of 12 without getting a lump in my throat and tears in my eyes," Sowa said. "They are amazing competitors but they are even better people. They have represented this university with a lot of dignity and a lot of integrity, and I am incredibly lucky to have worked with them. It was nice to send them out with a W."

The Idaho divers travel to Flagstaff, AZ in two weeks for the two-day (Feb. 3-4) annual Lumberjack Diving Invitational while the swimmers will head over to Pullman to face Washington State on Feb. 3 to close out their regular season schedule.
