MOSCOW, Idaho – Idaho swim and dive (4-2) hits the road this weekend to take on Northern Colorado (1-0) for a conference matchup in Greeley, Colorado.
The Vandals and the Bears are set to square off on Saturday, Oct. 28 at 10 a.m. inside Butler-Hancock Pool.
LAST TIME OUT
Idaho was unable to outlast the defending WAC Champions last weekend at home. The Vandals fell to Northern Arizona, 176.5-123.5 after a hard-fought battle.
The Vandals recorded four wins and seven runner-up finishes against the Lumberjacks.
Ella Haskins,
Sydney Heasman,
Ginger Kiefer and the 400 free relay team each recorded a victory.
The first victory for the Vandals came midway through the meet as Haskins continued her dominance in the 50-yard freestyle with a first-place finish in 23.94.
Two events later the Vandals went 1-2 in the 100-yard freestyle with Heasman taking the top spot while Haskins placed second. Heasman finished in 52.72 to grab her second win in the 100 free of the season while Haskins followed with a time of 52.76.
Kiefer was next in line to post a first-place finish as she recorded a win in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:01.99.
ABOUT NORTHERN COLORADO
The Northern Colorado Bears hold a 1-0 record to open the 2023-24 season after recording a 169-131 victory over New Mexico State on the road. The Bears notched wins in 12 of 16 events en route to their fifth straight win over their conference foe.
UNC finished third at the 2023 WAC Championships a season ago, scoring a total of 493 points. UNC received three silver and eight bronze medals.
IN THE WAC
The Vandals feature 23 swimmers and divers in the top 10 of the WAC rankings after the second week of conference play. Idaho showcases six student-athletes in the top three spots in their respective events.
Junior
Ella Haskins still remains No. 1 in the 50 free after week two of competition with a time of 23.44.
Freshman
Ginger Kiefer ranks No. 1 in three events, including the 1000 free, 200 backstroke, and 400 IM. Kiefer also ranks second in the 500 free and 200 IM. Sophomore
Grace Ruble sits second in the 50 fly.
The freshman class also features three other swimmers that find themselves in the top 3.
Sydney Heasman takes the third spot in the 100 free and in the 200 free, while freshman teammate
Isabelle Borke posts the second-fastest time in the 200 free.
Natalie Charles ranks third in the 200 breaststroke.
UP NEXT
Idaho swim and dive will continue on the road with a trip to the Puget Sound to compete against Seattle U on Saturday, November 11.
