Johansson & Sepken Win Doubles Title at Gonzaga Invite

SPOKANE, Wash. -- Ida Johansson and Selin Sepken teamed up to win the doubles championship to highlight a successful weekend for Idaho women's tennis at the Gonzaga Invitational.

En route to a perfect 4-0 record, Johannsson and Sepken took home first place in the Blue Doubles Draw with a 6-4 result over Gonzaga. The pair earned an opening-round win over Montana State before beating Washington State in the quarterfinals and Portland in the semifinals to clinch a trip to the championship match.

Johansson also found success in singles action, earning a runner-up finish in the Singles White Draw. The Swedish native posted a 3-1 record, including three victories by way of straight sets to lead Idaho in singles competition. She earned a round of 16 win over Montana State's Mia Ljubas before defeating Tiffany Phout (Washington State) and Lia Espinal (Gonzaga) to set up a matchup in the finals against Leandra Nizetic of Eastern Washington. Despite falling in the first, Johansson battled back to win in the second, but was unable to complete the comeback as she fell in the tiebreaker, 10-6.

Doubles pair Valentina Rodas and Naomi Schraeder also stood out in doubles play, winning a consolation championship in the Gold Draw. The duo beat competitors from Portland, Montana State and Seattle U en route to the title.

Up next, the Vandals travel to El Paso, Texas to compete at the UTEP Invitational, Nov. 3-5.
