Nine Vandals Named to BIg Sky FIrst and Second Team

FARMINGTON, Utah –  Five Idaho Vandal football players earned Big Sky First-Team All-Conference honors, four were named to the second team and seven picked up Honorable Mention All-Big Sky recognition, the conference announced Tuesday.
 
Hayden Hatten was a unanimous First-Team choice at wide receiver to lead the way for the Vandals on the first team. Gevani McCoy was named first-team quarterback and Anthony Woods was named a first-team running back. On the defensive side of the ball, cornerback Marcus Harris earned first-team honors. Ricardo Chavez picked up first-team honors at Kicker.
 
Jermaine Jackson was named Second-Team All-Big Sky in the Wide Receiver position and as a punt returner. Chavez earned a second-team nod at punter and Sean McCormick was named second-team as a special teams player.
 
Offensive lineman Ayden Knapik, edge rusher Keyshawn James-Newby, defensive lineman Dallas Afalava, linebacker Xe'Ree Alexander and safety Tommy McCormick received honorable mention honors. Jackson was also named honorable mention for kick return.
 
Hatten turned in another stellar regular season, catching 75 passes for 985 yards and nine touchdowns. He averaged 89.5 yards per game and earned a week-one Big Sky Player of the Week honors. He caught 11 passes for 139 yards and two touchdowns against Montana and had 175 receiving and a touchdown against Weber State. He has scored at least one touchdown in each of the last five games. He also threw for two touchdowns.
 
McCoy missed Saturday's game but led the Big Sky in passing efficiency. He was 190-288 for 14 touchdowns and seven interceptions. He also ran for two TDs. McCoy was a third-team honoree for the
 
Woods averaged 5.7 yards per carry and ran for 987 yards on 172 attempts. He averaged 98.7 yards per game and notched 14 touchdowns on the year.
 
Harris led the Vandals with nine pass breakups this season and tallied two interceptions, including a game-sealing 70-yard pick six against Northern Colorado. He also notched 3.5 tackles for loss and 42 total tackles.
 
Chavez led the Big Sky in made field goals (14) and field goal percentage (87.5%). He averaged 1.4 field goals made per game and earned Big Sky Special Teams Player of the Week honor s three times and STATS Perform National Player of the Week recognition after the Vandal win over Nevada.
 
For second-team honors, Jackson led the way with two recognitions. He was second for the Vandals with 507 yards on the season on 42 receptions. He added punt returner recognition as well, showing off against Idaho State Saturday with a 79-yard punt return for a touchdown. He had 147 punt return yards on the year and earned Big Sky Special Teams Player of the Week honors twice.
 
Chavez was named second-team punter after punting 17 times, with seven punts over 50 and five inside the 20. He averaged 48.2 yards per punt.
 
The final second-team honoree is Sean McCormick who once again shined as a four corps player on special teams. He racked up nine total tackles on the season.
 
The Vandals received the No. 4 seed and a bye in the FCS playoffs. Idaho awaits the winner of the Southern Illinois, Nicholls game. Tickets are on sale now for season ticket holders and go on sale Wednesday for the general public. More information is available on govandals.com/fcsplayoffs.
