SACRAMENTO – The Vandals dropped a road match in straight sets at Sacramento State, 14-25, 20-25, 20-25, on Saturday night at the Nest. 

Taryn Vrieling had nine kills and eight digs to lead Idaho. Zuzanna Wieczorek added five kills, five digs and three blocks in the effort. 

Sac State won the first set, 25-14. Idaho posted seven kills, nine errors and hit -0.077 in the set. The Vandals kept it within one point (10-11) midway through the set but Sac State used a key 5-0 run and 4-0 spurt to secure an opening set win. 

Idaho fell in the second set, 25-20. The Vandals were unable to find their groove in the second, posting nine kills on 29 swings while hitting .069. Despite trailing by as many as nine points, Idaho clawed its way back to make it a three-point match (18-21), but the Hornets ended any kind of comeback, earning four of the next six points. 

Sac State completed the sweep with a 25-20 win in the third. The Hornets continued to be a force at the net, posting six blocks and forcing the Idaho attack to hit .037. The Vandals got within striking distance, trailing 18-19 late but Sac State scored six of the next eight points to secure the win. 

The Vandals return to Memorial Gym for their final two home games of the year welcoming Northern Colorado (Nov. 10) and Northern Arizona (Nov. 11) for Senior Day. Idaho will conclude the regular season with a road trip to Eastern Washington on Friday, Nov. 17.
