Women’s Tennis Opens Spring Season at Air Force, Wyoming

MOSCOW, Idaho – The Idaho women's tennis team begins the 2023 spring season on the road, traveling to compete against Air Force and Wyoming. 

The Vandals start dual play against the Air Force Falcons Thursday at 4 p.m. Pacific Time before rounding out their week with a matchup versus the Wyoming Cowgirls Saturday at 10 a.m. PT. 

About Idaho
Head coach Sanne Louwers starts her second spring season with a roster that features three returnees, three transfers and two freshmen. 

Freshman Valentina Rodas put together an impressive fall in her first D1 action. She was one of five student-athletes to clinch a singles title at the ITA Bedford Cup while finishing the fall with an 8-7 singles mark to lead the Vandals.

Idaho was picked seventh in the 2023 Big Sky preseason poll. The top six teams in the regular season standings will earn a bid to the Big Sky Championships in Phoenix, AZ for a three-day tournament, April 27-29. 

The Vandals finished 5-13 overall and 3-5 in Big Sky action during the 2022 spring season. Idaho clinched a berth to the Big Sky Tournament in the regular season finale after defeating Eastern Washington, 4-3. Idaho ultimately fell in the first round to Idaho State (4-1). 
 
Scouting Air Force
Air Force enters Thursday's match with a 1-3 record after losses to Weber State (3-4), Colorado (2-5), Creighton (3-4) and a win over North Dakota (5-2). Through four matches, Arianna Van Houwelin leads the team with a 3-1 mark in singles at No. 6. 
  
Scouting Wyoming
Wyoming is 0-4 on the season with losses to Louisiana Tech (1-6), Omaha (2-5), Tulsa (0-7) and Oklahoma (0-7). Nikol Dobrilova is leading the Cowgirls in singles play with a 2-2 dual record.

The Vandals continue on the road next week with a pair of matches against UNLV (Feb. 10) and Utah Tech (Feb. 11).
