GOODYEAR, Ariz. – The Idaho Vandal men sit nine-shots back of the leaders in 13th-place at the Loyola Intercollegiate in Palm Valley Golf Club in the Phoenix area.

Sam Johnson and
Colt Sherrell closed the day strong to help the Vandals rally. Johnson notched three birdies in the last five holes to finish with a one-over 73 to lead the way for Idaho on the day. He sits in a tie for 26th, five strokes behind leader Brady Kaufmann from SIU Edwardsville.
Sherrell birdied his final two holes to finish with a two-over 74 and is tied for 38th and Suryadinata finished with two birdies and an eagle in his final four holes to rally from seven-over to finish with a three-over 75 to tie for 55th.
Joe Sykes tallied a two-over 74 after notching three birdies on four holes on the front nine. He tied with Sherrell and 15 other players for 38th.
Johannes Hounsgaard recorded an eagle in his Vandal debut and a birdie but struggled to find consistency and finished eight-over 80.
Tommy McKenzie, golfing as an independent, finished four over (76) and sits in a tie for 70th.
The tournament is tight on the team side. Marquette leads the field at one-under, but fourteen of the nineteen teams in the field are within 10 strokes of the Golden Eagles.
The Vandals are back in action at 6:45 a.m. Monday for the second round of the tournament.
