MOSCOW, Idaho – University of Idaho Athletic Director Terry Gawlik has been appointed to the NCAA Division I Council.
The Council is comprised of 40 members and is responsible for the day-to-day decision-making for Division I. The group includes athletics directors, athletics administrators, senior woman administrators, faculty athletics representatives and student-athletes. Every Division I conference is represented on the Council.
Gawlik will represent the Big Sky Conference. Her term of service will begin on August 1 and last until 2027. As part of her appointment, she will serve as a member of the Division I Women's Basketball Oversight Committee.
"I embrace the opportunity to be nominated and selected to represent the Big Sky Conference and the University of Idaho on the NCAA Division I Council" said Gawlik. "I hope to bring my leadership and experience to this committee as well as the Division I Women's Basketball Oversight Committee. Given the challenges we are all facing in college athletics, I look forward to being in the room to discuss the direction and future on behalf of all the student-athletes we provide opportunities for."
This will not be the first significant NCAA post for Gawlik, she served and was appointed chair on three NCAA Championship committees: Women's Basketball, Women's Volleyball and Men's Soccer.
"We are incredibly excited to have Terry Gawlik serve on the NCAA Division I Council," Big Sky Commissioner Tom Wistrcill said. "We know she will represent Idaho and the entire Big Sky Conference admirably during a pivotal time for college athletics."
A former basketball and volleyball student-athlete at Southwestern University (Texas), Gawlik has three decades of leadership experience. She came to Idaho in 2019 after a 25-year career at the University of Wisconsin, including 14 as the Senior Woman Administrator.
Since taking the helm at Idaho, she has led the transformation of the department with the hire of five head coaches, including Jason Eck, Alex Pribble and Carrie Eighmey. Idaho has also invested in improvements to athletics facilities, improvements in student-athletes academics and mental health support and secured the naming rights of the P1FCU Kibbie Dome.
"Terry Gawlik's leadership and experience in athletic policy and administration has dramatically changed our Athletic Department at the University of Idaho," Idaho President Scott Green said. "She will be an asset to the Division I Council and we are pleased by the recognition of her skills shown through this appointment."
