Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

UCSB Defeats Vandal Soccer, 1-0

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The Vandal soccer team had their away game streak snapped by Santa Barbara, 0-1 on Sunday afternoon.

For the first time this season, the Vandals were held scoreless in today's loss. Idaho out-shot the Gauchos 9-11 overall and 3-1 on goal. Margo Schoesler recorded two of the shots on goal and Hannah Alfaro had the other one.

Schoesler had the best opportunity for the Vandals in the opening minutes of play. Jadyn Hanks won a ball in Gaucho's final third, finding Annika Farley in the right corner. Farley crossed the ball into Schoesler at the back post where Schoesler's volley attempt was blocked by the Gaucho keeper.

The Gauchos lone shot on goal in the 60th minute managed to be the difference makers in today's game.  UCSB's Liu O'Callaghan sent a ball into the box and Kira Witte reached out to get a touch on it. Haley Phillips happened to be in the way and was able to redirect Witte's initial save toward the goal.

Alyssa Peters, Cassidy Elicker, Jayd Sprague, and Witte played all 90 minutes leading the defensive effort. Peters, Hanks, and Alfaro have now appeared in 54 matches for the Vandals, ranking fifth all-time at Idaho. Schoesler is right behind with 51 appearances.

The Vandals have one final non-conference test this week at University of Texas at El Paso on Thursday, September 14th at 7:00 p.m. MT. Idaho will start their conference slate at home hosting Weber State on September 20th at 7:00 p.m. PST.
