PHOENIX – The Idaho women's tennis team split two road matches in the desert, earning a 4-3 win over UC Riverside and a tough 4-0 loss to Grand Canyon.

After falling to Grand Canyon on Sunday, the Vandals closed out their road trip Monday on a positive note, edging out UCR to move to 3-2 overall on the season. 

Idaho fell on courts two and three in doubles before surrendering singles matches at No. 1, 2 and 4 to fall to the defending WAC Champions Grand Canyon. 

The next day the Vandals won on court two and three while earning three out of six singles decisions to earn a one-point victory over the Highlanders. 

Doubles competition saw the duos of Valentina Rodas and Naomi Schraeder and Lena Beckx and Rachelle Starreveld help give the Vandals a 1-0 start. Rodas and Schraeder won 6-3 on court one before Beckx and Starreveld posted a 6-2 result at No. 3. 

Despite the Highlanders winning on their top two courts, Idaho used its back half of the lineup to earn a deciding fourth point. Beckx carried over her doubles success to a 6-0, 6-4 win at No. 5 to give the Vandals a 2-0 edge. Ida Johansson was quick to follow with a 6-4, 6-3 straight-set win at the No. 6 position. 

UCR won on courts one and four before Idaho closed out the competition with a match-clinching win by Diana Khaydarshina. She recorded a 7-5 first-set victory and a 6-3 second-set win on court three.
