CHENEY, Wash. – Idaho men's tennis cruised past Eastern Washington, 7-0, on Saturday afternoon at EWU Tennis Courts. The Vandals earned their third consecutive win, improving to 3-8 overall and 2-1 in Big Sky play.
Idaho set the tone early on in doubles action, capturing wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions.
Alejandro Salvador and
Francisco Gay won 6-3 on court three over the Eagles pair before
Matteo Masala and
Yu-Shun Lai clinched the doubles point, earning a 6-4 victory over EWU to take a 1-0 advantage.
The Silver and Gold continued their success in singles play winning all six matches. Gay extended his win streak to three after capturing a 6-0, 6-1 win over Cadene Kammerer at the No. 1 spot. Masala followed with a 6-1, 6-0 decision over Eastern Washington's No. 3, Drew Dillon. At No. 4,
Sebastian Medica won his third consecutive singles match and earned the clinch, taking down Tyler Dalos, 6-1, 6-1.
Idaho swept the remaining singles matches, picking up wins from
Mario Duron (6-2, 6-1), Lai (6-3, 6-4) and
Taiyo Kurata (6-4, 4-6, 10-8)
Up Next
The Vandals compete in their final non-conference matches of the season at the Boise State Tournament next week. Idaho will have the chance to compete in the three matches over two days (Mar. 22-23) with opponents to be determined at a later date.
