CHENEY, Wash. – Idaho women's tennis (8-5, 2-1 BSC) defeated Eastern Washington (3-12, 1-3 BSC) in thrilling fashion, 4-3 on Saturday afternoon at the Jim Thorpe Fieldhouse. After trailing 3-1, the Vandals won the next three singles matches to earn their second Big Sky win of the season.
To start the match, the Vandals went up 1-0 after winning two out of three doubles competitions. Lena Beck and
Rachelle Starreveld started off with a 6-3 victory on court three while
Saffron Dowse and
Ida Johansson posted a 7-5 result at No. 2.
In singles play, the Eagles took a 3-1 advantage in the match earning consecutive wins at No. 3, No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively.
Valentina Rodas ignited the Vandal comeback, winning 7-6 (7-5), 0-6, 6-4 in the No. 4 spot.
Next,
Naomi Schraeder kept the Vandals' hopes alive earning her fifth consecutive win in come-from-behind fashion, 2-6, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 5 singles.
With the match all tied at 3-3, Starreveld played hero with a 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 win to clinch the match victory for Idaho.
