OGDEN, Utah – Idaho men's tennis (4-11, 2-2 BSC) suffered a 5-2 loss at Weber State (6-10, 2-1 BSC) on Friday afternoon at the Ogden Athletic Club.
Idaho's top two courts earned victories but that wouldn't be enough as Weber State secured the doubles point and won four singles matches.
Weber would take the opening point of the match after winning on courts one and three in doubles play. The Vandals started strong with a 6-3 win by the No. 2 doubles tandem of
Francisco Gay and
Taiyo Kurata. Quickly following was a 6-3 loss by
Alex Asenov and
Sebastian Medica on court one. The Vandals' last hope was
Matteo Masala and
Yu-Shun Lai, who lost in a tiebreak to Weber's No. 3 duo.
In singles, Gay and Kurata both earned wins for the Vandals. Gay stayed perfect on the season, taking down Tristan Sarap in three sets at No. 1, 3-6, 6-4, 6-0. Kurata moved to 3-0 in conference matches after defeating Elyes Marouani, 7-6, 6-3 on court two.
The Vandals return to the LCSC Tennis Courts in Lewiston next week to face Montana State on Wednesday, April 3. First serve is scheduled at 4 p.m. PST.
