LEWISTON, Idaho – Idaho men's tennis fell in its regular season home finale to Sacramento State, 6-1 on Friday night at the LCSC Tennis Center.
Prior to match play, head coach
Raleigh Grossbaum honored Idaho's four seniors -
Alex Asenov,
Mario Duron,
Matteo Masala and
Alejandro Salvador. The core four were instrumental in bringing the Vandals back to the top of the Big Sky and helping lead the program to consecutive conference titles in 2022 and 2023.
Senior
Alejandro Salvador delivered his second singles win in a row by outlasting Michael Kaplan in three sets at No. 6. The Spaniard posted a 6-0 sweep in the first before Kaplan answered back with a 6-0 win of his own in the second. Salvador returned to form in the third frame, earning a 10-5 tiebreak win.
Washington took an early lead in doubles play after winning two matches on courts one and two.
Matteo Masala and Salvador were down 4-2 in a tiebreak at No. 3 when the match went unfinished.
Salvador's win at No. 6 would be the only scoring opportunity for the Vandals, as the Hornets captured wins on the remaining five courts.

The Vandals close regular season play with a road match against Northern Arizona on Saturday, April 20. Idaho's tournament hopes will rest on the final match of the year, as they will need a victory in Flagstaff to clinch a spot at the Big Sky Championships.
