Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Vandals Tie Utah Tech in Dramatic Finish

MOSCOW, Idaho – The Vandal women's soccer team tied Utah Tech, 2-2 in a dramatic finish on Sunday afternoon in the P1FCU Kibbie Dome. KV Miller scored her first career goal while Hanks sealed the draw with a goal in the 88th minute.

The four goals in today's game all occurred in the second half following a stalemate in the first 45 minutes. Idaho had the edge in shots at the half, 8-5 led by Hannah Alfaro-Black with three.

Utah Tech got on the board first in the 51st minute with a headed in cross by Lataya Brost. Brost beat the back line to a chipped ball, connecting with her head and sending it to the far right of the goal.

The Trailblazers contained their lead for the next 30 minutes until Idaho found the equalizer off Miller's head. After a Utah Tech foul on the far left side, Alyssa Peters stepped up to take the free kick. Peters sent the ball to the back post where Miller was able to flick the ball into the far post. The goal marked the first of the sophomore's career and Peters' 21st career assist, one shy of tying the Vandal record.

In the 87th minute, Utah Tech found the edge once again, earning a penalty kick off a Vandal handball in the box. Lacy Fox stepped up and converted the penalty in the lower left corner.

18 seconds later, Idaho responded with a goal from Hanks. The goal drive started on the kickoff, getting passed around until Rebekah Reyes sent a ball long into the Trailblazers' half. Hanks intercepted the cross and redirected it with her head, beating Utah Tech's backline and goalkeeper. The goal marked her second of the season and 15th of her career.

The Vandals pushed, trying to find the go-ahead goal, but finished with the draw. The game was physical as three yellow cards were issued, two to Utah Tech and one to Hanks for Idaho. A total of 27 fouls were called, with 16 against Utah Tech and 11 against Idaho. The Vandals fired off 10 more shots than the Trailblazers, 23-13.

Idaho takes the next seven days to recuperate and will host UNLV on Sunday, September 22nd at 11:00 a.m. for their non-conference finale.
