Vandals Post Third Straight Shutout, Peters Surpasses Program Assist Record

Idaho picks up its second conference win of the weekend with 3-0 victory over Portland State

MOSCOW, Idaho – In an all-around team effort, Idaho recorded its third consecutive shutout on Sunday afternoon, 3-0 over Portland State inside the P1FCU Kibbie Dome. Hannah Alfaro-Black, KV Miller and Sara Rodgers each tallied a goal while defender Alyssa Peters supplied a pair of assists to become the all-time assist leader in program history.

Peters' 23rd and 24th assists place her in sole possession in the Idaho record books and move her into third for most career assists in Big Sky history. She is now three away from tying Weber State's Chansi Crompton mark of 27.

Idaho (8-3-1, 2-0 BSC) got on the board in the 32nd minute, with Alfaro-Black dropping the ball over the outstretched hand of the PSU keeper. Her third goal in three games and fourth of the season was scored in the box off her right leg after Cassidy Elicker lofted a pass in from midfield to set up the opportunity and give Idaho a 1-0 lead.

The second half didn't provide many opportunities for the Vandals through the opening 15 minutes with only one shot offering. Rodgers changed that in the 65th minute, delivering a header for her second career goal and first of the season off a free kick from Alyssa Peters in the box. The play was set up after Maddy Lasher drew a foul in the final third to allow Peters a try at history and she converted with a perfectly placed pass that found the head of Rodgers to make it 2-0.

It was seven minutes later when Idaho converted on a second free kick in the 72nd minute to make it 3-0. Tori Peters helped set up the attempt after drawing a foul on the far side near the Idaho bench, allowing her sister to loft a pass in the box that connected with Miller's head for her second goal of the season.

The Vandals fired off 10 shots with eight on goal and kept the Vikings off the board behind constant pressure from the Idaho backline. Paula Flores and the Vandal defense secured their fifth clean sheet of the season behind five saves including an acrobatic one-hander that she pushed wide to keep the shutout alive.
