CEDAR CITY, Utah – The Vandal volleyball team (0-5) dropped a pair of matches on the first day at the Southern Utah Tournament, falling to UC Riverside (1-4) in three (16-25, 18-25, 25-17, 21-25) and Southern Utah (2-3) in three sets (15-25, 17-25, 20-25) on Friday at the America First Event Arena.
In the opening match against UC Riverside, libero
Ada Isik recorded her third double-digit digs total in four games with a team-high 13.
Emma Patterson and
Lauryn Arnold teamed up for seven combined blocks with Patterson leading the way with four and Arnold tallying three.
Zuzanna Wieczorek posted nine kills to lead all Vandals while
Taylor Brickey and
Madu Fontes each followed with eight kills.
Miya Carmichael posted 23 assists to mark her first double-digit performance as a Vandal.
In a loss to Southern Utah, Fontes was Idaho's leader in kills with a season-high 14. The junior out of Brazil also recorded seven digs and two blocks to lead the Vandal defense.
Brickey added six kills while
Natalia Wielgus set up the attack with 14 assists.
Defensively, UI posted 45 digs and nine blocks on the afternoon.
