BOISE, Idaho – The Vandal women's soccer team (4-3) fell short at Boise State, 3-1 on Sunday afternoon.
Maddy Lasher scored the lone goal for Idaho, marking her first of the season.
The Vandals fought hard on a smokey and blistering hot day in the Treasure Valley. Idaho struck first in the 29
th minute with a finish by Lasher. The scoring drive started with a 50-50 battle in the midfield where
Karli Yoshida-Williams won the ball and dished it back to sophomore,
Izzy Thoma. Thoma found
Annika Farley passed the ball to
Annika Farley on the right flank, where she took one touch and then lobbed the ball into the 18-yard box. The cross passed rolled to the back post where Lasher one-touch finished it past the Broncos' keeper.
As a fifth-year, Lasher moved up to No. 8 all-time with 14 career goals and 37 career points with today's finish. Farley's assist tallied her second of the season.
Idaho goalkeeper,
Paula Flores saved three shots in the first half keeping the Vandals in the lead. The Broncos had their fair share of chances, firing off nine shots and earned four corner kicks.
Seven minutes after the second-half kickoff, the Broncos found the equalizer from Carly Cross, her third goal of the season. Shortly after, Boise State scored the go-ahead with credit to Morgan Padour. Both goals were scored in similar fashion, with the shot coming from the middle of the field and ending top-shelf over Flores' reach.
Boise State added one more goal as the time winded down in the 80
th minute. Jillian Anderson converted straight from a free kick, placing the ball in the top left corner.
Flores finished the game with five saves, facing 19 shots. Idaho was outnumbered on corners two to six but held their composure with only eight fouls to Boise State's 13.
Idaho will return to the road, traveling to the University of Nevada on Thursday, September 12
th. The game will kick off at 7 p.m. PST and will be broadcast on the Mountain West Network.
