Krišková to Lead Vandal Volleyball Program

MOSCOW, Idaho – After a national search, Idaho Director of Athletics Terry Gawlik has announced the appointment of Romana Redondo Krišková as Head Volleyball Coach, removing the interim tag that she carried for the 2024 season.

"Clearly the Vandal Volleyball program has gone through some challenges over the past few seasons," Gawlik said. "She took over the interim Head Coach role last summer and through the fall season. She provided the program stability, care, and trust. She has recruited talented and driven athletes that will help move our program forward. Her international experience as a professional volleyball athlete, her collegiate playing experience at volleyball powerhouse Wisconsin, and her passion for the game of volleyball at the highest levels will be tools that she uses to recruit, coach, and build the Vandal volleyball program.

"She is a hard worker, resilient, intentional yet patient, and is respected in the volleyball community. As a young coach, one of her greatest assets is not being afraid to reach out for help and advice. I look forward to working with her and her staff to rebuild the program."

Redondo Krišková has extensive experience as a coach and player at the highest levels of international and collegiate volleyball.

"I'd like to thank Athletic Director Terry Gawlik and (Sr. Associate AD) Chris Walsh for giving me this opportunity to lead Idaho volleyball," Redondo Krišková said. "I feel humbled and extremely motivated for this opportunity to bring Idaho volleyball back on its feet. I'm ready to give my all to the program, community and alumni and bring success back to Vandal volleyball. I can't wait to get back to the gym and continue grinding with the team. It' a great day to be a Vandal!"

She served as an assistant for ASPTT in France during the 2022-23 season after playing professional volleyball for six seasons (2017-22).

Prior to competing overseas, Redondo Krišková played five seasons at the University of Wisconsin and Virginia Commonwealth. During her three-year stint at Wisconsin as an outside hitter, she appeared in 66 matches and helped lead the Badgers to a 2015 Big Ten Championship and runs to the Sweet 16 and Elite 8. Following her senior season in 2016, Redondo Krišková was selected to the AVCA Honorable Mention All-Northeast Region team after posting 268 kills, 66 digs and 63 blocks.

Before transferring to Wisconsin, Redondo Krišková played two seasons at VCU under two-time Atlantic 10 Conference Coach of the Year Jody Rogers. She made the most of her time in Richmond, VA, earning 2013 Atlantic 10 Player of the Year, AVCA All-American, AVCA All-East Region team, A-10 All-Tournament team and A-10 All-Rookie Team. She went on to guide the Rams to a 26-8 overall record and an Atlantic 10 runner-up finish following an impressive freshman campaign.

Apart from playing in six different countries during her professional career, Redondo Krišková spent 16 seasons on the Slovakian Junior and Senior National teams.

Redondo Krišková graduated with a bachelor's degree in sociology in 2016 and a master's degree in educational leadership and policy analysis in 2017 from the University of Wisconsin.

She took over the program as the interim coach last summer and was tasked with filling out the roster in short order without a full staff.

She joined the Idaho staff in 2023 as an assistant coach.
