Vandals in National Spotlight, Play Lumberjacks on ESPN 2

Idaho (3-5, 1-3) vs. No. 19 Northern Arizona (5-3, 2-2) FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Idaho Vandals (3-5, 1-3) are back in the national spotlight this week as they'll take on the No. 19 Northern Arizona Lumberjacks (5-3, 2-2) on ESPN 2. This is the third time the Vandals will be featured on national TV this season, and the second time they'll play on linear ESPN Networks. Courtney Lyle and Rene Ingoglia will be on the call on The Worldwide Leader in Sports, Dennis Patchin and Patrick Libey can be heard on the Vandal Radio Network.

These two Big Sky opponents have been playing each other since 1975. Idaho owns a 19-6 overall record against the Lumberjacks and are 10-3 all-time in Flagstaff. The Vandals have won the last two matchups in the series and have won 12 of the last 14. NAU's last victory over the Vandals in Flagstaff came in the 2021 spring season, and prior to that their last win in Flagstaff was in 1981.  

Idaho enters the game after having its best overall game of the season against Portland State. The Vandals scored a season high 45 points – the most UI has scored in a game since Nov. 2023 (63 vs. Idaho State) – and the defense limited the Viking offense to just six points and forced a pair of turnovers. 
 
NAU will come into Friday's contest coming off a 31-18 victory against Idaho State. The Lumberjacks have one of the best quarterbacks in the Big Sky Conference in Ty Pennington who currently ranks third in the league for most passing yards. 

IDAHO NOTES
  • In Joshua Wood's first game back from injury, he passed for 259 yards and four touchdowns. His four first-half touchdown passes are the most in a half since Jack Layne's six against Idaho State in Nov. 2023. 
  • Idaho has been one of the best teams in the nation at controlling time of possession this year. Holding the ball for 32:27 per game, the Vandals lead the Big Sky and are ranked 12th in the nation for time of possession. 
  • Marquawn McCraney, had a breakout game against Eastern Washington. McCraney had 105 receiving yards and a touchdown. His 105 receiving yards are the most by a Vandal this season. He followed that performance up with another touchdown reception against Northern Colorado.
  • Matyus McLain leads the team with 3.0 sacks and 10.0 tackles for loss. In the Vandals game against EWU, the Priest River native logged a career high 3.5 TFL. 
  • Running back Elisha Cummings had one of the best games of his career against Portland State. He had a career high 100 receiving yards, including a 64-yard Marshawn Lynch-esque screen pass that he took to the house, and 65 rushing yards in the Vandals big win.
