MOSCOW, Idaho - Last week, Idaho Volleyball hit the road to take on the few conference opponents they had yet to see this year, taking trips to cities known for tomatoes and roses in Big Sky matchups with Sacramento State and Portland State and going toe-to-toe with each.
This week, the Vandals begin the month of November at home, tipping off a three-match homestand that will feature the likes of Eastern Washington, Weber State, and Idaho State in Memorial Gym. On Saturday, the Eagles drive over to Moscow for a long-awaited rematch.
Vandal fans will recall their Volleyball team traveling to Cheney, WA nearly a month ago, not only collecting the first league win for the program in three years, but doing so emphatically and sweeping the Eagles off of their own court. Kiana Greer (14-10) and Cayton White (10-13) did what they have done best and recorded double-digit kills and digs in Reese Court, while Gabi Smith and Sarah Sullivan put on blocking clinics to seal the win.
This week, even more is on the line as Idaho has a chance to secure the first regular-season sweep over a conference opponent since the pandemic-stricken 2020-21 campaign, when they came out of quarantine to take down then-league foe Southern Utah in back-to-back contests in Memorial Gym. Before that, the last fall-semester sweep over a Big Sky team was the year prior when UI took down Portland State and, you guessed it, Eastern Washington.
RE-SCOUTING THE EAGLES
The Eagles (2-19, 0-9 BSC) have had a difficult month and a half, dropping 11 straight since their home tournament. That said, this is not a team to count out, as they have had results that show they are a team to watch for. Knocking off Seattle U, who had defeated the Vandals just a couple weeks prior, and taking now 11-9 Gonzaga of the Big West to five sets.
The last time Eastern and Idaho faced off, Kalista Lukovich led her team with 14 kills and three service aces and holds the team lead in kills (212) for the third year in a row. Reigning freshman of the year Quincy Moran had a ten-piece herself. Defensively, Judith Bolomboy continues to be one of the top blockers in the Big Sky with 1.05/set and 91 overall while Elle Bruegman averages 3.28 digs/set for eighth in the league.
HAPPY HALLOWEEN
As the contest takes place the day after, Saturday's matchup has been dubbed the team's Halloween contest. Fans are encouraged to dress up in their favorite costumes to give the Eagles a seasonal scare in Mem Gym.
