MOSCOW, Idaho — Idaho used a balanced scoring effort and a decisive second-half push to outlast previously unbeaten Southern Utah 76–72 on Saturday afternoon at ICCU Arena, improving to 3–1 on the season.
Hope Hassmann led the Vandals with 21 points, knocking down a pair of 3-pointers and going a perfect 9-for-9 at the free-throw line. Debora Dos Santos added 13 points, six rebounds and two steals off the bench, while
Lorena Barbosa and
Kyra Gardner each chipped in key buckets to steady Idaho after a slow start.
The Vandals trailed 18–12 late in the first quarter but flipped the momentum with a 24-17 second period. Hassmann hit back-to-back threes early in the frame, and Barbosa scored seven of her 12 points to help Idaho take a 38–35 halftime lead.
Southern Utah (3–1) surged again in the third, briefly reclaiming the lead. The Thunderbirds held a 57-54 lead at the end of the third, but the Vandals controlled the fourth.
Idaho's depth proved the difference down the stretch. The Vandals' bench outscored SUU's 29–8, and
Sarah Brans went a perfect 4-for-4 from the floor to provide a lift in critical moments. Idaho dominated the paint 42–24 and capitalized in transition, turning defensive rebounds into 14 fast-break points.
Uhrich powered SUU with 17 rebounds and 14 points, while Chambers led all scorers for the Thunderbirds with 19.
The Vandals are back in action for games next Friday and Sunday in the ICCU Arena. Idaho hosts UC Riverside Friday and CSUN on Sunday afternoon.

• After trailing 18-12 late in the first quarter, the Vandals went on a 20-4 run over five 4:49 of game time to take a 30-22 lead.
• Debora Dos Santos entered the game with 1:05 to play in the first quarter and scored three consecutive buckets and hit a free throw for the Vandals to get the run started. She also recorded two rebounds and a block in the three-minute stretch on the floor.
• Dos Santos scored a season-high 13 points and grabbed six rebounds in just 15 minutes on the court.
• The Idaho bench outscored the SUU bench 17-7 in the first half and 12-1 in the second half for a game-total of 29-8.

• Sara Brans was 4-4 with an assist from a teammate on all four baskets. She tied her season high with eight points.
