MOSCOW, Idaho - For the 47th time in series history, the Idaho Vandals and the Idaho State Bengals squared off on the gridiron, and for the second time in as many seasons, the Potato State Trophy was on the line. With the most unique trophy in college football on the line, the Vandals battled before ultimately coming up short, falling by a final score of 16–37
The Vandals began the day with an opening ceremony honoring the 14 graduating Vandal seniors moments before kick-off. Amongst that group was Jahman McNeil, Donovan Parham, Zakhari Spears, Xander Echols, LJ Harm, Dylan Fischer, Deuce Blenman, Mike Graves, Nate Thomas, Eli Cummings, Sam Brown, Zach Krotzer. Jake Cox, Isiah King, Nate Azzopardi.Â
The Bengals received the ball to start the game and marched down to the Idaho 22-yard line before being stopped. The ISU kicker came out, made a 39-yard field goal to give Idaho State the lead, and the Bengals wouldn't look back from there. The young and banged-up Vandal team was unable to generate any offensive rhythm in the first half, and Idaho State took a 27-0 lead to the locker rooms at the half.
The second half told a similar story for the Vandals. The Black and Gold secured their first points of the game in a 63-yard drive led by true freshman Sawyer Teeney and Thomas. The freight-train running back capped off the drive powering through the middle with a 16-yard run. The Vandals went for two, converting on a run from quarterback Rocco Koch. Once the Bengals regained possession, they continued their run.Â
In the final moments, the Vandals drove into the endzone once again when walk-on Teeney lobbed a pass to McWilliam. This was the freshman's first career touchdown which he followed up running it in for the 2-point conversion.
This game wrapped up with a final score of 16-37 the final game of the 2025 season for the Vandals.Â
