SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - In a contest that was a roller coaster from beginning to end, Idaho defeated Cal Poly 83-81 for the Vandals' first overtime victory in nearly three years.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Both sides looked sluggish at the start, going a combined 16-61 from the field in the opening half. Kolton Mitchell found a groove from deep in the first 20, going 3-6 from beyond the arc to give Idaho a three-point lead at the break.

UI turned it up to start the second, going on a 28-16 run to open the half. Biko Johnson began to really impact the game, finding a wide-open triple with 7:30 left in the contest to push the Vandal advantage to 18, just one point off their largest of the night.

The Mustangs would not go away quietly, however, as Poly would hold Idaho scoreless for the next 5:30 and shave the Vandal lead to just five, before setting off on another seven straight points to cut the gap to one with ten seconds remaining.

The two teams traded free throws down the stretch, with the Mustangs tying the game with three ticks on the clock to send it to overtime.

Cal Poly made the first field goal of the extra period nearly three minutes into overtime, before Idaho rattled off a six point run, taking the lead on a fadeaway and one three from Mitchell with just seven seconds on the clock.

The Coeur d' Alene native iced the game with a couple of foul shots, as the Vandals held onto an 83-80 victory.

In a game where both teams struggled to shoot the basketball, Mitchell made hay in the sunshine, posting 31 points on 6-12 shooting from beyond the arc, while also grabbing a career-high six boards.
