Kiefer Captures Three WAC Titles, Vandals Finish Fifth in Conference Championship

Idaho Earns First Conference Championships Since 2020

FULL RESULTS

MOSCOW, Idaho -
Idaho Swimming and Diving had made strides in the water all season long. From the record book being rewritten to dominant victories over conference opponents throughout.

Earlier this year, it was announced that the Vandals would be departing the Western Athletic Conference and joining the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation beginning in the 2025-26 season. But before this, Idaho had one more chance to show their stuff against the best the WAC has to offer.

They did just that, finishing fifth and tying for the second-most gold medals of any team on the week. Ginger Kiefer was the star of the show, finishing as the highest individual scorer of the entire meet and collecting three WAC championships and resetting the school record book three times.

DAY 1
The action began for the Vandals with the 200 yard medley relay, where the team of Ginger Kiefer, Rylie Moxham, Silvana Cabrera, and Ella Haskins took home fifth with a time of 1:42.04, the third-fastest time in school history. Kiefer returned to the pool later in the day for the 800 yard freestyle relay alongside Isabelle Borke, Sydney Heasman, and Grace Ruble.

This group came into the meet already possessing the school's fourth-best time in the event at 7:24.78, and only outdid themselves, clocked at 7:20.92 to move up to second all-time and a third overall finish. In the 3 meter diving finals, Saige Anderson was the top finisher for the Vandals with a score of 216.70.

DAY 2
The morning events featured multiple Idaho swimmers qualifying for the finals, as well as some reshuffling of the record books. Ginger Kiefer built upon her strong start to the week, earning the top seed in the 200 individual medley and setting a school record time of 1:58.84 in the process. Kiefer's time was the only sub-2 minute in the prelims and one of two in the Idaho top-15.

Silvana Cabrera earned the 3rd seed in the 200 IM with a season-best time of 2:02.07. In the 50 yard freestyle prelims, Ella Haskins earned the 4th seed with a season-best 23.17 seconds. Katy Foley, Madelynn Butler, and Isabelle Borke each qualified for the B final, and Marie Mason (5:00.81) and Holly Lenarz (4:55.95) each qualified for the B final in the 500 freestyle prelims.

The day continued with a bang for the Vandals, as the 200 yard freestyle relay team of Madelynn Butler, Katy Foley, Grace Ruble, and Ella Haskins captured the second school record of the meet with a final time of 1:31.77.

The highlights continued to roll for Idaho as Ginger Kiefer made her presence felt in the 200 yard individual medley finals, not letting her new school record stand for long as she recorded a new time of 1:58.35, beating her old mark by nearly half a second. This was once again the only sub-2 minute of the meet, crowning Kiefer a conference champion, the first for the Vandals since 2020, as well as a B cut to the NCAA tournament.

Silvana Cabrera earned a fifth-place finish in the event clocked at 2:02.18. In the B final, Grace Ruble was 13th overall with a time of 2:04.37. Natalie Charles (2:05.48) and Adelaide McRoberts (2:06.04) took home strong performances in the C final.
Freshman Holly Lenarz recorded a top-10 finish in the 500 free finals with a time of 4:54.53, knocking over a full second off of her preliminary mark.

DAY 3
With more prelims to start the third day of competition, Grace Ruble earned the top seed for Idaho and fifth overall in the 100 yard butterfly at 54.76 seconds. Silvana Cabrera was just behind her at 54.92.

Ruble would take home fifth in the finals with a time of 54.44, followed by Cabrera at 54.62. Madelynn Butler rounded out the top-10 in the B final, clocked at 55.29 seconds. In the 400 yard individual medley, Ginger Kiefer wasn't done making an impact. The sophomore earned her second conference championship and third total school record of the week with a time of 4:13.43, also an NCAA 'B' cut qualifier.

Holly Lenarz made another strong statement in her first WAC championship, finishing eighth overall in the 400 IM, timed at 4:26.94. Marie Mason (4:25.56) finished eleventh, and Amelia Buyers (4:26.86) took home thirteenth in the finals.

Isabelle Borke (1:52.44)  was the seventh overall finisher in the finals of the 200 yard freestyle, and Ella Haskins (55.88) finished seventh in the 100 yard backstroke.

In the 400 medley relay, Kiefer, Courtney Crawford, Grace Ruble, and Ella Haskins took home a sixth-place finish with a final time of 3:43.08.

DAY 4
In the final day of competition, Ginger Kiefer collected her third WAC championship of the week in the 200 yard backstroke. The Vandals had not had a conference champion since 2020, and now Kiefer had done it three times. Her time of 1:55.07 was good for another top mark in school history, beating the old record (1:58.22) by over three seconds.

Katy Foley finished fourth overall, recording a time under two minutes (1:59.87) for the first time in her career. In the 100 freestyle, Ella Haskins (50.32) earned a fifth-place finish, Sydney Heasman (51.05) took home seventh, Madelynn Butler (51.09) finished tenth, and Isabelle Borke (51.16) was eleventh overall.

In the 200 yard butterfly, Grace Ruble (2:01.49) locked up a top-five placement, Silvana Cabrera earned seventh (2:01.88), and Taylor Wassel (2:03.43) finished ninth.

To earn another gold medal for the black and gold, the 400 freestyle relay team of Sydney Heasman, Madelynn Butler, Grace Ruble, and Ella Haskins finished first overall with a time of 3:20.34, giving the Vandals four conference champion performances in the week.

Idaho finished the week in fifth-place as a team with 470 points, bolstered by Kiefer's electric performances and strong outings from the relay teams. School records were shattered and memories were made. With several NCAA B cut performances across the season, the Vandals will aim to leave their mark at the NCAA Championships if called.
