The Football Championship Subdivision Athletics Directors Association (FCS ADA) announced that former University of Idaho safety, Tommy McCormick, received the 24th Annual Scholar-Athlete of the Year award.
"On behalf of the FCS ADA, I would like to congratulate this year's recipients for their outstanding dedication to both academic and athletic excellence. This is a remarkable achievement that deserves recognition," said FCS ADA President Mark Benson, Director of Athletics at the University at Albany.
One of only two award recipients, Idaho's star safety was chosen from 52 FCS ADA Academic All-Star Team honorees and eleven finalists to receive a $5,000 postgraduate scholarship.
McCormick, a senior, will complete his bachelor's degree in medical sciences in the Spring of 2025. Furthering his education, he plans to pursue medical school in the summer of 2025 or 2026, depending on future NFL opportunities.
On the field in addition to being a leader, McCormick lead the 2024 with three interceptions and was second in tackles for one of the best defensive units in the Big Sky Conference. His on-field accomplishments helped him to be named to the 2024 First Team All-Big Sky.
"I am very grateful to be recognized for the excellence I have displayed in the classroom and on the field throughout my college career," said McCormick. "This scholarship will be put toward a good cause as it is my plan to attend medical school in the upcoming years. Thank you very much for the award."
