MOSCOW, Idaho – Friday afternoon in Boise, Idaho, the Idaho Men's Tennis team went to bat with both No. 65 Gonzaga and No. 56 BYU in the Boise State Spring Invitational.
To start the day, the Vandals fought hard against the Gonzaga Bulldogs. In the doubles matches,
Paul Janson and
Eric Wang provided the Vandals with some steps towards victory, taking home a win against the Zags on the No. 3 court in a 6-4 match. Unfortunately, this momentum was not strong enough to overcome the formidable Bulldogs' doubles teams on the other courts.
In the singles, Gabriel Moroder came off a tough first set against Gonzaga's Nicholas Reeves, falling 0-6. But the Italian native didn't let that break his spirit. Moroder came back with incredible resilience, defeating the Bulldog in the second set 6-4. Moroder topped off the win in the third set 6-3, to take home an Idaho point in the match.
The Vandals continued to fight the strenuous battle but ultimately fell on the remaining singles courts. Gonzaga defeated Idaho 4-1 in Boise, with the Vandals slated to compete against BYU shortly after.
