MOSCOW, Idaho - In the final outing of the spring season, Idaho football hosted the annual spring game inside the P1FCU Kibbie Dome Friday evening, capping off just over a month of competition on the turf for the first time since November.Ā
Team Black, consisting of the starting offense, opened up the game vs. the second team defense with a 44-yard scamper from Damonte Bias that moved from the 25 yard line to the opposite 31. Shortly after, quarterback Joshua Wood connected with Noah West-Baranco for an 11-yard touchdown to open up the scoring for the ones.
The Team Black defense stifled the Gold offense for the better part of the night, putting the ball back in the hands of the offense. Hayden Kincheloe was borderline unstoppable for the majority of the contest, powering in from a yard out to put his team up two scores, a lead they would hold going into the break.
Coming out of the shortened halftime, Holden Bea orchestrated the best drive of the day for the Gold team, marching into the red zone in six plays before Cameron Pope put points on the board with a 51-yard boot slotted through the uprights. Sawyer Teeney responded in the fourth quarter by finding Tony Harste in the back of the end zone, where the junior climbed the latter and got his feet in bounds to secure the third touchdown of the night for the Black Team.
To wind down the night, the Vandal family got an opportunity to see the next generation in action as the early enrollees, led by true freshman Blitz McCarty, got a handful of live snaps. McCarty went 2-4 passing on the night and ran for 16 yards on two carries in the fourth quarter. As the clock ticked down to zero, the young signal caller uncorked a moonball to Aiden Nixon in the end zone that was broken up by Jakob Skobis to end the day.
With the scrimmage in the books, the spring season has come to an end for Vandal Football, as they will put the pads up for the rest of the semester, staying in the weight room for the remainder of the term and reporting for summer training in June.
