MOSCOW, Idaho - The Vandal men's tennis team continued to improve their lineup, as they announced the transfer of Hugh McDonald from the University of Oregon. McDonald, a native of Toowooba, Australia, signed a letter of intent to attend the University of Idaho and compete for the Vandals.
"Hugh has received great recommendations from everyone I have spoke with," Idaho coach Jeff Beaman said. "They have all been impressed with his work ethic and dedication."
McDonald has amassed a solid junior resume while playing in Australia. He was ranked fifth in Queensland 18-and-unders and was 37th as a junior in the nation. McDonald found success in tournament play, winning the Queensland Grass 18U title and was runner up in doubles at two ITF futures tournaments.
"Hugh has great experience coming from a nationally ranked Pac-10 program and his extensive play as a junior and in men's events," Beaman said. "It is always great to get another lefty and he should really help us in doubles."
McDonald is the third signing for the Vandals this spring, joining Russian transfer Andrey Potapkin and incoming freshman Andrew Dobbs.
