CHENEY, Wash. ? The University of Idaho men's tennis team won their second straight match with a 4-3 victory against Eastern Washington on Sunday.

Idaho struggled in doubles but rebounded in singles to improve their record to 9-5 on the season.

“This is a good win and a step forward against a good Eastern Washington team,” University of Idaho director of tennis Jeff Beaman said. “They made the NCAA tournament last season and were tough to overcome.”

The Vandals had an impressive showing in the first four singles spots with Artem Kuznetsov, Stanislav Glukhov, and Alexandru Joitoiu each winning in three sets. Rob Chalkley defeated Daniel Paz 7-6, 6-2 in No. 4 singles to register Idaho's first point of the match.

“Our top four guys really stepped up in singles today,” Beaman said. “The team fought back hard after falling behind in doubles.”

In No. 1 doubles Kuznetsov/Glukhov lost 8-6 to Kyle Schrader/Nico Reigo de Dios and Hugh McDonald/Timothy Huynh fell by the same score to Kevin Anderson/Art Karas.

Idaho's next match is against Montana in Lewiston, Idaho on Saturday.
