No. 63 Idaho Loses Thriller to No. 52 Boise State

BOISE - It was as close as could possibly be but the No. 63 University of Idaho Men's Tennis team fell to No. 52 Boise State 4-3 on Thursday.

The match was ultimately decided at the No. 3 position where Adrian Simon came up just short against Harry Skinner 6-4, 7-6, 6-3. Simon was within striking distance in the third-set tying the score at 3-3 before Skinner pulled away with the win.

"The deciding match was about as close as a match can get," Idaho Director of Tennis Jeff Beaman said. "Boise State is always a tough match on the road as they have a strong team and great support from their fans."

The Vandals took the doubles point as Simon and Lachlan Reed grinded out the deciding match against Alex Bothe and James Meredith 9-8. Alex Joitoiu and Abid Akbar notched singles victories in the No. 5 and 6 spots respectively but Idaho's eight-match winning streak still came to an end.

"We need to shake off this match and get ready for a lot of tough matches in a short period of time starting with Ball State on Saturday," Beaman said.

Idaho opens the tournament against Ball State at 9 a.m. at the Crane Creek racquet club on Saturday.
