SEATTLE - The University of Idaho women's soccer team started on its heels and never recovered on Friday in a 2-1 loss at Seattle University that snapped the Vandals' six-game win streak.
With the loss, Idaho falls to 7-3-0 on the year, while Seattle moves to 6-4-0.
Sophomore Amber Pimley scored her first career goal on a free kick in the 70th minute, but it was the lone on-target shot for the Vandals in the match, as Idaho was outshot by a 23-6 margin overall and 12-1 in on-target attempts.
"Amber scored a fantastic goal on a direct free kick, but there were only small flurries of what we've been seeing this year, and small flurries aren't enough to win a game like that," Idaho head coach Pete Showler said. "Seattle U is a very good side - they played very well today and deserved to win."
Junior Liz Boyden made 9 saves in 90 minutes, but allowed a pair of goals, which ended a stretch of six consecutive games without allowing multiple scores.
Seattle's Kara Kuttler got the Redhawks on the board at the 19:00 mark after taking a long pass forward. SU took its 1-0 lead into the break. Pimley struck at the 69:54 point to pull Idaho into a 1-1 tie, but it would only last six minutes, as Seattle sophomore Emma Levy knocked in a loose ball at 75:09 for the game-winner.
The Redhawks had 10 corners to Idaho's two, while SU committed eight fouls and the Vandals had seven. Seattle's 23 shot attempts and 12 shots on goal are the most given up by Idaho so far this season.
"We can step on the pitch on Sunday and prove ourselves and get ready for conference," Showler said. "Hopefully we learned a lot today and we know what we have to improve upon for Sunday.
"We've got to start a new streak."
The Vandal women will try to get back to their winning ways at 11 a.m. on Sunday, when they face Cal State Bakersfield in the second round of the Redhawk Invitational.
