SPOKANE, Wash. – University of Idaho women's soccer didn't come to Spokane with the right mindset, head coach Pete Showler said, and the team walked away with a 3-0 loss at Gonzaga on Friday.

“We were very flat, we were second everywhere – the most disappointing performance of the season thus far,” Showler said. “Thankfully, we have Sunday and conference to turn it around, and we will.”

Idaho (3-6-2) gave up two goals in the first 20 minutes, then surrendered a third late in the match. The Vandals put themselves into scoring positions at times, but weren't able to make the finishing touch.

Gonzaga (5-4-0) outshot Idaho 15-13 overall and 8-6 on goal. The Bulldogs got on board in the 12th minute when Cricket Harber tapped in a loose ball in the Idaho box following a corner kick. GU struck again at 18:26 when Ali Ohashi one-timed a free kick from Harber.

Idaho put on pressure and saw its best opportunity come moments after GU's second score when freshman midfielder Katie Baran put an open shot from 18 yards off the crossbar. The Vandals were able to up the pressure in the second half and crossed in a number of balls, but never made the final step in the box.

“We created chances today, and didn't finish them,” Showler said of the Idaho offense. “Gonzaga took theirs, we didn't take ours.”

Corners were an even 4-4 in the match, while Idaho was whistled for 10 fouls to GU's eight. Junior keeper Caroline Towles made five saves for Idaho, while Gonzaga's Susan Brown also tallied five and the Bulldogs added one team save.

Idaho plays its fourth game in a seven-day span on Sunday when the team hosts Eastern Washington at 1 p.m. at Guy Wicks Field. The Eagles enter the match with a 1-6-0 record after earning their first win of the season last weekend.
