Vandals have off day

SEATTLE, Wash. – Idaho men's and women's cross country had an off day on Friday at the NCAA West Region Cross Country Championships, as the Vandal women took 20th and the men finished 24th.

Idaho's top individual on the men's side was senior Barry Britt, who crossed the line in 38th with a 10,000m time of 30:27. He was followed by freshman Will Austin-Cray in 139th (32:28), redshirt freshman Colton Hastings at 157th (32:59), senior Jeff Osborn in 161st (33:08) and freshman Santos Vargas in 179th overall to round out Idaho's scoring. Sophomore Cayle Turpen was Idaho's sixth finisher at 185th overall.

On the women's side, junior Hannah Kiser led the team at 54th overall in a time of 21:04 on the 6000m course. Fellow juniors Alycia Butterworth (99th, 21:37), Emily Paradis (128th, 22:00) and Holly Browning (131st, 22:03) were Idaho's second through third finishers, while freshman Halie Raudenbush was Idaho's fifth at 146th overall (22:17).

Freshman Marquita Palmer was the sixth Vandal at 166th overall in 22:34, while redshirt freshman Abby Larson was 180th overall (22:57).

Idaho's men earned a team score of 660, while the women finished at 552.

The finishes weren't enough for Idaho to send any individuals to the NCAA Championships. Idaho's 2012 cross country season ends with a third-consecutive women's Western Athletic Conference title, a WAC Athlete of the Year honor for Kiser, a WAC Women's Coach of the Year honor for director of track & field/cross country Wayne Phipps, and a combined six individual All-WAC honors.
