Men's tennis rolls Nevada

EUGENE, Ore. - The Idaho men's tennis team improved to 2-0 this spring Saturday with a 5-2 win over Nevada in Eugene, Ore.

"I'd like to congratulate the guys," Idaho coach Jeff Beaman said. "This was a very strong result against a very good University of Nevada program. They came out and really executed the way we had talked about leading into this match."

The Vandals swept through doubles with 8-2 victories at all three spots. Idaho kept its momentum in singles play with wins by Dmitry Perevoshchikov at No. 2, Marius Cirstea at No. 3, Cesar Torres at No. 4 and Jose Bendeck at No. 6 for the 5-2 win. Torres, who teamed up with Perevoshchikov at No. 3 doubles, won 6-1, 6-1 in his singles match against Fernando Sunago.

"Cesar Torres had an excellent day today playing a great No. 3 doubles match and then going out and taking care of his opponent in singles in a dominant fashion," Beaman said.

Abid Akbar lost a three-setter at No. 1 singles, falling 6-4, 2-6, 10-6 to Victor Ouvrard, and Cristobal Ramos Salazar lost 6-4, 7-6 at No. 5 singles to Robert Allen.

The Vandals will face DePaul at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday.
