Lewiston, Id.—The Vandal men finished off a double header Saturday afternoon with two, 6-1 victories over opponents, Whitman and Lewis-Clark State College.
Idaho started the afternoon by picking up the doubles point in their dual with Whitman. On the No. 1 court Jackson Varney and Cristobal Ramos Salazar took down Zach Hewlin and Jake Hoeger in a 7-6 battle. Odon Barta and Felipe Fonseca eased to a victory on the No. 2 court over Phillip Locklear and Jornes Rivers, 6-1.
In singles play, Idaho controlled courts one through five as Barta, Varney, Fonseca, Ramos, and Kovacs all cruised to straight set victories. Whitman picked up its only point as Hoeger took down Sam Jankovic 6-0, 6-0.
Just like they they did in the morning, the Vandals grabbed the doubles point as the pairings of Varney and Ramos and Barta and Fonseca dispatched their LCSC opponents easily on courts one and two.
Idaho again continued its stellar singles play, taking five of the six points with straight set victories. The final singles match was not played, giving the Warriors their only point on the day.
“The guys put in a good performance today.” head coach Jeff Beaman noted. “Playing two matches back to back is both physically and mentally demanding but they pushed themselves and took care of business.”
With the victories the Vandals are now 4-1 on the season and return to action as they take on Northern Colorado in a Big Sky battle on Feb. 21.
