PULLMAN, Wash. – Ethan Atherstone finished his first collegiate golf tournament in stellar fashion with a two-under 211 and a tie for second at the Itani Quality Homes Collegiate at Palouse Ridge Golf Course. He was just one stroke back of medalist Nick Mandell from Washington State.

While the Vandals as a team, had moments of struggle and wound up tied for 11th, coach David Nuhn saw progress over the 54-hole, two-day tournament.

"We're starting to see glimmers of what I've been trying to get them to focus on," Nuhn said. "I like the fight I saw out of a lot of guys."

In addition to Atherstone's runner-up finish, Ryan Porch tied for 18th at three-over 216. Atherstone was a model of consistency with rounds of 70-71-70, while Porch went 72-70-74.

"It's a great thing to see out of him," Nuhn said of Atherstone. "Hopefully, that will give him confidence moving forward. Ryan didn't have his  best stuff this week but he was able to fight back and have a good finish."

Also for the Vandals, Enrique Marin and Holden Bistline tied for 36th (220), Chris Carew tied for 59th (227), Hayden Ritter was 65th (229), Klaus Ganter tied for 73rd (234) , J.T. Bloomer tied for 79th (237) and Brock Anderson was 83rd (240).

Carew have one of five eagles recorded during the tournament.
