PREVIEW – Idaho had a fantastic weekend last time out, defeating Seattle U and Boise State on the road.  The win against the Redhawks was the first in program history.  Idaho had been 0-9-1 all-time in that matchup, with the lone draw coming last season in Moscow.  The win at Boise State was the first in Boise since the 2003 season.  It was also the first time since 2010 that the Vandals earned a non-conference weekend sweep on the road.

The Vandals needed to fight back against Seattle U, after conceding a goal in the first half.  They leveled the score midway through the second on a penalty kick and claimed the lead just a few minutes later with a great goal from Kayla Watanabe.  Idaho got things going early at Boise State, with Kavita Battan scoring her first of the season in the 21st minute.  The goal would be enough for the win, as Torell Stewart had another fantastic game.  Stewart would be recognized by the Big Sky as the Defensive Player of the Week.

MATCHUP – Idaho is 1-4-0 all-time against CSU Bakersfield, with the lone win coming during the 2010 season.  The last meetings between these two teams came during the 2013 season while both were members of the WAC.  CSU Bakersfield won both matchups that season by identical 1-0 scores.

ROAD WARRIORS – The Vandals will play seven straight games away from home, missing the majority of the month of September.  The stretch includes the final five games of the non-conference schedule and the first two Big Sky games of the season.  So far, the Vandals are 2-1-1 on the stretch.

RANKINGS – Idaho was picked by the Big Sky coaches to repeat in 2016, after receiving five first place votes and garnering 92 of a possible 100 points.  The Vandals are also ranked 91st in the nation in RPI.
