WAIPAHU, Hawaii – A tough stretch late in the second half proved to be too much to overcome, as Idaho (1-2-1) fell to Hawaii (4-0-1), 2-0, on Thursday night.
 
"First of all, credit to Hawaii.  They had a great gameplan and they played really, really hard," said head coach Derek Pittman.  "I thought we adjusted well in the first half and kept them at bay for long periods of time.  I thought Torell Stewart was big-time for us in goal tonight.  Again, the players played really hard, we just never found a way to break through.  In the end, they caught us on a little bit of a counter attack which ultimately led to the first goal and we didn't react well."
 
Hawaii broke the game open in the 79^th minute.  After a slipped pass by the Rainbow Wahine found its way to the middle of the box.  The Vandal defense collapsed, but the official saw something he didn't like and awarded Hawaii the penalty kick.  Torell Stewart made the correct move, but the low shot slipped just past her fingertips.
 
The Rainbow Wahine would double its lead moments later, taking advantage of an error in the back.  Kellsie Gleason took the ball down inside the box and lofted a shot past the advancing Stewart to double the advantage.
 
The Vandals weren't without their chances, forcing the Hawaii keeper to make five saves on the night.
 
Overall, Stewart had a tremendous game, making many incredible saves.  Her biggest came in the 40^th minute when she made an amazing diving save on a free kick from inches outside the box.  She followed that up with a huge breakaway save early in the second half, snuffing out a great opportunity from Hawaii.

The Vandals will wrap up play in Hawaii against Saint Mary's at 5:30 p.m. Pacific on Sunday.
